A Solana racing game you play in your browser
MotoKart is a multiplayer 3D kart racer. Open the page and you're on the grid. There's nothing to download and no account to sign up for. Race for free, or put SOL into an on-chain escrow and race other players for the pot.
What MotoKart is
MotoKart is an arcade kart racing game built for the web. It runs on WebGL, so it works in a desktop browser with a keyboard or gamepad, and on a phone held sideways with touch controls. Races are short: up to six karts, two or three laps depending on the circuit, and you're back in the lobby a few minutes later.
What makes it a Web3 racing game is how paid races are handled. Entry fees aren't held by us. They go into a smart contract on Solana, and that contract pays the winners when the race is over. You can look up the program on a Solana explorer from the "Wager contract" button in the game.
How a Solana race works
- Pick a race. Join an open race from the lobby, or open your own and share the invite link. The host chooses the circuit and the entry fee.
- Pay the entry fee. Your entry goes into an escrow account owned by MotoKart's Solana program. Every racer pays the same amount, and the pot is the sum of those entries.
- Race. Once at least two players are in, the host starts the race. Empty grid slots can be filled with AI karts, but AI racers never pay in and never win money.
- Get paid on-chain. When the race ends, MotoKart's game server submits the finishing order and the program pays the top finishers straight to their wallets. Normally a majority of the race's players must also sign that result before the program will pay. If they don't, the server can still settle once a waiting period has passed, so a player who lost can't freeze the pot by refusing to sign.
How the pot is split
A 5% house fee comes off the pot. The rest is split between the finishers:
| Players who finish | 1st | 2nd | 3rd |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 100% | – | – |
| 2 | 60% | 40% | – |
| 3 or more | 50% | 30% | 20% |
The split depends on how many players finish, so no one's share goes to the house just because fewer than three people crossed the line.
If a race never happens
If a paid race never starts, or no result reaches the chain before its deadline, everyone gets their full entry fee back. Anyone can trigger those refunds, not just us. The game server also checks for expired races and triggers the refunds itself.
Racing that comes down to driving
Because real money can be on the line, nothing random decides a MotoKart race. There are no random item boxes, and no catch-up boosts that help whoever is in last place. The game doesn't secretly slow down the leader, either. What you pick up on the track is placed in the same spot for every racer and does the same thing every time:
Coins
Each coin adds 0.5% top speed, up to ten. Hit a wall without a Crash Guard and you lose three.
Crash Guard (? box)
For ten seconds, your next wall hit costs far less speed and none of your coins.
Turbo (orange pill)
A rare pickup that stores one two-second boost. You decide when to fire it.
Off-road grip (eggplant)
Three seconds of grass or dirt at nearly road speed, used only while you're off the road.
On top of that there's drifting: hold the hop button through a corner and let go for a boost. The longer you hold the drift, the bigger the boost.

Why Solana?
Racing for money only works if paying in and getting paid out is quick and cheap. On Solana a transaction confirms in seconds and the network fee is a fraction of a cent, so a small entry fee still makes sense. It also means the rules for holding and paying out the pot are public code that runs on-chain, not a promise from us.
Is MotoKart play-to-earn? Not in the usual sense. There's no token that you farm just by playing, and no reward for taking part. In a paid race the prize money is other players' entry fees, and the fastest drivers win it. If you want to race without risking anything, stick to free races. More in the FAQ.
